P3D NSA Conventions

Well, since so many have asked, here's what we have:
Last year's convention was in Richmond, VA, about as
EAST as you can get.
This year's convention is in Green Bay Wisconsin (Midwest)
and is chaired by Harry Richards. I'm sure most of you
are aware of this upcoming event but contact Harry or
go to http://nsa-3d.org to get more information.
Next year's convention is all set for Mesa, Arizona (West)
with Tom Dory of APEC fame as chairman. For details you
can contact Tom or visit with him at Green Bay.
2001 is open. We wanted to have it in New England but
no one up there was willing to chair the event. We have
Orlando as a possibility but it's a bit on the expensive
side if we use the hotel we have sited so far and the
Orlando club doesn't have a lot of members to work on the
event. (You need 6-8 good workers to really pull it off.)
I'm also scouting out Syracuse, NY which is East enough to
suit our needs and can be easily utilized by our willing
chairman Bill Davis. If he can round up enough bodies to
help it would be a good venue.
Let me tell you that all of this is only being worked on as
I write this. I have feelers out to the convention & visitors
bureaus in Orlando, Syracuse & Saratoga Springs for 2001. Also
to Minneapolis/St. Paul and Cleveland for 2002 and Palm Springs,
Riverside and Portland Oregon for 2003. (Portland would consider
another year as well as long as it is after 2003.) Any convention
planning in any of these cities is dependent upon the best
rates/facilities we can find for our event. We have certain specs
that we must meet for space, ceiling height, available hotel rooms,
etc. It takes a lot of investigating and then actual visits before
a venue can be chosen. We then have to "dicker" till we ACTUALLY
get what we want.
It seems many locations that would be considered "West" are more
interested than those in the East. Colorado would be great!!!
So would California and Oregon. We would love to accommodate
everyone but can only do one a year:):):) Also, past experience
has taught us that East Coast sites tend to draw more people than
Midwest or Western venues (although California has a large membership
and would probably turn out quite well for a convention there).
When John Baird gets the Kansas City group up and running we will
probably hope that they host one year as a Midwestern site as well.
(Here that John?)
If any of you are interested in hosting just let me know. Bill Moll's
schedule has not permitted him to spend much time on planning these
events so Wolfgang and I volunteered to try to get the planning done
from this end.
Thanks for everyone's interest and please keep the dialog going. I
would like to know your thoughts on location, room rates, etc. as
we enter into these different venues.
