Stereo Club Meeting
The next meeting of the Genesee Valley Stereo Guild (GVSG) will be
Wednesday, March 10, 1999 from 7:00 to 9:45 PM or so. Doors open at 6:30.
The meeting is free and open to anyone interested in stereo photography.
Location is Webster NY, east of Rochester.
Please note: we have a new meeting place for our club. (Same as February,
if you made that meeting)
The March meeting and all subsequent meetings will be held in the Webster
Community Meeting Hall. Earlier I had given the location as 28 West Main
St. in the Village of Webster. The address is 29 South Ave., with parking
and access from behind the Fire Hall.
So you can mark your calendars, the next scheduled meetings are March 10,
April 14 and May 12, 1999. We will then break for the summer months,
resuming in September.
March Meeting Topic: XM Corporation's 3D-IQ System
This meeting will feature a presentation by John McCart of XM Corporation
in Rochester. John will be showing his company's "3D-IQ" stereo viewing
system. This system is targeted toward the educational field, introducing
students to 3D images and stereoscopy while providing educational benefits.
Some of you may have seen early versions of XM's viewers at NSA/ISU 1995 in
Atlanta or at the first planning session for NSA 96 in Rochester. The
product, using a mirrored stereoscope and two-sided stereo cards has been
considerably refined and is now ready for introduction to the public.
John will have some promo sample images to pass out. Come see and hear of
the joys of developing and introducing a new stereo viewing system.
An open projector session will follow John's presentation. Attendees are
encouraged to bring slides to share.
Directions
>From Rochester, take 104 East towards Webster across Irondequoit Bay and
exit at Route 250 (Webster). Turn right on 250, then cross Main Street at
the light. 29 South Ave is on the right, but the parking in front is
reserved for firemen. Park in the Municipal Parking Lot behind the fire
station. The entrance is around back, too.
Any questions, call Bill Davis at (716)-671-7707 or email to

April 14's meeting will feature a presentation by Paul Doering, a retired
Kodak engineer. Paul is completing the biography of Joseph Tykociner
(Tyk-o-CHEE-ner), the
Polish-born inventor of the sound-on-film "talkies".
According to Paul, "Joseph was a stereo buff. He often carried a stereo
still camera on vacations. Most remarkably, he documented his invention on
5x7" glass-plate stereo photographs! I have a complete set of contact
prints, ready for inclusion in the book (which will be published next year
by the Univerity of Illinois Press).
"I'd be delighted to present this information to the club. It would adhere
to the outline of a similar talk I gave at the annual meeting of the Movie
Machine Society at the Eastman House in October 1997. I have some 2-D
slides to illustrate the talk, and then members could examine the contact
prints which leap off the paper in cross-eyed stereo."
Anyone is welcome to suggest, contribute to, assist with or present a
demonstration on any stereo-photography related topics. Please contact Bill
Davis.
