P3D GVSG Meeting-Brief report
- From: Bill Davis <bd3d@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>
- Subject: P3D GVSG Meeting-Brief report
- Date: Fri, 12 Mar 1999 21:31:16 -0500
No one else has posted about our meetings, even though several Photo-3Ders
are regular attendees. (I know who you are...) Maybe no one had a good
time. :--(
I'm gonna post a report just this once.
The Genesee Valley Stereo Guild (GVSG) continues to grow, as more and more
of the "wandering lonesomes" in the Greater Rochester (NY) area hear about
us and come to the meetings. Our March 10 meeting went very well, with
attendance over 20 for the first time.
Doors opened at 6:30, and by 7 quite a crowd had arrived. Several animated
discussions were going on, the M&Ms were flowing and stereographs in
several different formats were being displayed.
The discussions were going so well the Executive Vice Throat-Clearer Bill
Davis didn't call the meeting to order (well, sort of order) until 7:40 or
thereabouts.
People were still trickling in, having been delayed by an accident on the
Irondequoit Bay Bridge. Apparently someone had tried to drive their Park
Avenue through a snowplow from behind. He was unsuccessful.
Brief bits of business and announcements were presented, then the floor was
turned over to John McCart of XM Corp.
For the next hour and a half, John described the 3DIQ viewing system his
company has developed, and some of the many hurdles they have had to
overcome to bring this idea to fruition. This is a unique system
incorporating an inexpensive viewer with sets of cards in a back-to-back
stereo format, with subject sets geared towards the educational field.
Since the product has not yet been officially introduced, I don't want to
say too much here. John will be posting when the time comes.
John was mobbed by the crowd after his talk, with lots of give and take on
viewer design, printing methods and subject matter for card sets. More
conversations began around the room and by 9:30 the Senior Projection
Equipment Custodian Bill Davis packed up the unused TDC 116. Didn't want to
interfere with some excellent discussions.
High Minister of Finances David Boyer passed the hat and collected a whole
pile of cash for the Piggy Bank. (It wasn't really a hat. Actually what
he passed was the base to the TDC projector case.)
It was agreed by all that we were a great bunch of folks and we should get
together again sometime. Probably at the next meeting, April 14.
Chancellor of Locks, Keys and Light Switches Bill Davis finally closed up
and dropped off the key at 11:30.
Next meeting April 14, 1999 Doors open at 6:30 Contact me for details.
Best regards,
Bill Davis
