If you add such an aperture out in front of the lens, like a filter, you
will actually increase the lens abberrations, and may cause focus shift.
The longitudinal position of the aperture is chosen by the lens designer
to optimize performance. Assuming that the designer did a good job, the
proper place for the aperture is between the elements, where the existing
aperture is.
