The reason not to do everything one's self (that *could* be done
by someone or something else instead) is to maximize what one is able
to do.  "Having it done" builds upon existing work rather 
than duplicating it.

Why doesn't everyone hunt one's own food, or plant and grow one's
own crop rather than have someone *else* do it on some farm somewhere?
Lazy? One reason is so one has time to mount 3D slides.  :-)

I think it can be important to do everything at least once, but
don't think it's laziness not to want to do the identical thing
over and over again forever, especially when one doesn't need 
to or want to.  Both the time and energy could be used on
something else more personally productive.  Each person has
their own goals in what they want to spend their time and
energy on, and they will decide differently.

P.S. - The another version of the "do it yourself" attitude is 
       the "not invented here" (NIH) syndrome.  :-)
