P3D Another Pot-Shot Question
- From: Bruce Springsteen <bsspringsteen@xxxxxxxxx>
- Subject: P3D Another Pot-Shot Question
- Date: Wed, 31 Mar 1999 19:29:37 -0800 (PST)
Humble thanks to Eric (DrGandolf) and Ray (3D Zone) for the authoritative,
and I suspect conclusive answers to my question about stereopsis in persons
in whom the corpus callosum has been cut. (P3D = Answers on tap!) Now
this will lead me to the books and articles again, where I love to be.
Here's another lob from left field; see if my luck holds:
Last summer I made some noise on this list trying to generate enthusiasm
for putting John Bercovitz's general MAOFD equation into a mechanical
calculating wheel or slide rule (the object of the semi-coveted
"Springsteen Prize"). I have always enjoyed such clever finger-powered
gadgets, and think they have charm and virtues that justify their survival
in the cyber age. So I was thrilled at a collectibles fair this last fall
to discover a neatly packaged calculating wheel that is a relic (one hopes)
of the cold war. (Actually I bought 2 - one for me and one for a future
gift or prize or something.) It was a plastic gadget in a military-green
pouch. On one side, a wheel and scales let you approximate the yield of a
nuclear explosion from the appearance of the mushroom cloud and some other
simple observations. The other side of the wheel takes the yield, distance
from detonation and other factors to let you estimate your total radiation
exposure after walking into the area where such a thing has occurred.
Delightful, eh?
So here's the question - has anyone ever seen an accidental or deliberate
hyperstereo of the fireball or cloud from a nuclear detonation? No I am
not interested in taking one myself, thanks.
More generally, is the technology of nuclear war a subject that has been
stereographed to any degree, to anyone's knowledge?
