Hi all,

I have a few comments on this meta-list thread I would like to add.

First, I would favor one p3d list again with sell-3d continuing to be
separate. I originally joined p3d when there was just one list and
finally dropped the list at about the time that the list splitting began.
(Partially because of the tedium and bad feelings the controversy
generated.) It seems to me that there was more cross discussion and
sharing of ideas with one than there is now.

>When I spoke up in favor of creating the SD-3D list it was with this same

place

To me it is this 'overhead of complaint' that is the root of the problem.
I really don't understand why there was at that time, and continues to be,
this complaining about messages that aren't pertinent to ones interests or
messages that are too long, etc. It is just so easy to delete a message
or just scroll on by.

The other list that I am a part of has close to a thousand members and the
daily digest is frequently 150 - 200k. It is a community of multimedia
programmers that runs the gamut from people just playing with the software
on a casual basis all the way to professionals who seems to live and
breath the software 24 hours a day. Sometimes while reading the digest
two or three people will ask the very same, very basic, questions within
hours of each other and there is never a complaint, just courteous helpful
responses that encourage the newcomers. Sometimes I get frustrated
scrolling past it, but there are never complaints on the list even when
the topic gets way off track.

It seems like an attitude of encouraging anyone who is at all interested
in any aspect of stereo 3-d might encourage our newcomers to get more
involved.

One other bad point about having all these separate lists is that I'm not
sure how people are supposed to find out what they all are and how to
subscribe. I've been on p3d now since I started doing 3-d on my web page
a few months ago and I'm still not sure I know what all lists are out
there. Would a trailer to the p3d digest help??

Glad that's off my chest...

David
