P3D Baja case modification?

Does anyone have any experience in modifying old Baja cases designed for
2X2 slides so that they take stereo slides? I have a few of these 2x2
cases and it looks as if one could remove the center divider between
two rows of 2x2's and have the same spacing as is found in the similar
drawers for Realist format slides. (I am talking about the ones with a
_permanent_ divider of course rather than with a temporary divider to
give the option of either stereo or mono slide storage, which I have
heard of but never actually seen.) Anyway, I am assuming that the
bakelite-like material would be somewhat brittle. Any advice? Also, I
assume that these old plastics are not very "archival", but does anyone
know if they actually are demonstrably bad for slides? -Linda
