P3D S1 Ambient flash

Thanks for the S1 flash review George. Dr T explains how the S1 exposes
available light to lighten the background before firing the flash to
properly expose the subject. I'm surprised many are so amazed by this
discovery :-) This technology/ feature has been employed in P&S cameras
since the early 80's. The feature was commonly called " night flash" and
of course most camera manuals would not explain in detail how the
feature works. In my 2D days using a Nikon One Touch ( I believe a 1985
model) I took every flash picture in the night flash mode to balance the
background and include surrounding ambient light. I took many photos
with a beautifully exposed city light background and my people subjects
( distance 4-7 feet) were perfectly exposed. Using the standard flash
mode would show no signs of city lights in the background. This feature
is standard in many P&S cameras today.
