P3D Graflex Stereo Hot Shoe

Does anyone know why the hot shoe on the Graflex Stereo camera is
smaller than a regular hot shoe?  Is this the case, or is mine just
damaged or bent in some way?  I can't get a regular camera-mounted hot
shoe flash to fit.
