P3D Night Flash

The " night flash" mode on many P&S cameras was also called " slow-sync"
flash mode.....allowing available light to balance the flash lighting. I
am fond of low light photography and can duplicate these flash modes
with my Realist and a tripod ( or using Karen's help) Meter the scene
with a light meter and set the camera accordingly. Fire a hand-held
flash off camera ( using test button manually) during the exposure. Low
light shots that require a second or more exposure are easy especially
using a cable release in one hand and the flash in the other. I get the
best results firing the flash just before closing the shutter. You can
also use the flash on camera or sync count with an assistant. This will
work well up to 1/8 sec shutter speeds. Long exposures can allow you to
fire a flash several times in different locations ( called painting with
light) for interesting lighting effects. Mark Dottle
