P3D TDC shutter release

I have a TDC colorist II that seems to have a stiff shutter release. Didn't
notice it during the first 4 or 5 rolls, but recently it seems stiff enough that
I generate camera shake with the extra pressure required to trip the shutter.
Cable release seems spongy, not crisp. Is this endemic to this camera, or, would
a disassembly and cleaning do it some good? Any help would be appreciated.
