P3D stereo pointer?

I was rather hoping that the stereo pointer would be some kind of
"rangefiner" device.  Otherwise you can't designate a point in XYZ space
on your projection screen, and a left and right eye dot appear on each
surface.  A standard pointer is highly polarized so when rotated about
its axis should appear in the left and right eyes twice with each
rotation, same as rotating a polarizer. But who need to point out stuff
on a projeccted stereo slide?
