Hello Lawrence,
Last fall I did some research on a pair of TDC116s that had been
supercharged. The 500watt CZX lamps were replaced with 750watt BTP
halogen lamps. Even though they beefed up the fan the units
occassionally heat damage slides. In addition, these 750watt lamps
result in a dimmer image than the original 500watt lamps. This is
because the filaments are much larger and they overfill the projection
lens. The result is more light and heat to the slide but less light on
the screen.
I posted the report here in several parts. It is also at
http://www.clark.net/pub/thubin/aosd/photo3d/ir_study.txt . Let me know
if I can provide any information.
In general, make sure that the filament for the new lamp is centered the
same as the old one and the same size or smaller. Otherwise, the image
of the filament at the projection lens may overfill the projection lens
and waste light.
