P3D Pointless

OK, you answered my "who would want to" question....

"John Toeppen writes:

Gee, it's very difficult for me to refrain from "flame" mode here... but
are
you guys kidding? (Gee, who needs to point out stuff on a projected MONO
slide, eh?) Obviously your ideas about the uses of projected stereo are
limited indeed. Even George Themelis thought I was pulling his leg!
(George,
I'm very SERIOUS about 3D you know!) To widen your stereo horizons, know
that 3D projection is often for instruction... in fact, I am working
with a
neurosurgeon who would like to point out various structures within the
anatomical stereos of the brain he has stereographed... he is currently
limited to the surface of the screen."

My thoughts were that if an aspect of the subject deserved closer
examination that I would take a closer image of that subject. I
generally feel that a photo should speak for itself. And that a series
of shots can carry you to a location. I don't use my pointers with my
TDC 116 or when watching my home videos either. This would be
pointless.

I do use a green laser pointer with my work viewgraphs and have with
some projected SVGA anaglyph. One of my friends does use a pointer to
indicate the "trail up the pass" in with his 2 1/4 slides. Usually I
just show a series of slides of progressing up the trail. I suppose that
I should try my pointers on my projection screens. But I am usually
busy changing slides. I think that I would be content to use a laser's
polarization to make it only appear in one eye.

I have been know to use my mouse to point out things in my jps stereo
images.

Perhaps I should widen my horizons still more and break though my self
imposed conceptual limits, and get a few more educational and
informative stereo images out there. BTW, we project our laser and some
other jps images using a VRex projector.(why I could try my pointers
there!) :)
