P3D Re : New 'Viewmaster' (like) viewer ?

Succeeded in disassembling the strange McDonald's Mickey Mouse
viewer. Because of the weird (Chinese ?) screws I first made
myself an appropriate tool by filing down the top of an old
screwdriver in a triangular shape (about 10 minutes work).

The inside is looking very strange indeed: There are two,
overlapping (left in front of right), cog-wheels, diameter about
5 cm, distance between the centres (axis) about 3 cm, in which
the 'pictures' are mounted. Pictures are about 9 mm high and 9.5
mm wide.

Both cog-wheels are coupled to a third one which is connected
to the thumb-wheel (under spring tension) for advance. The left
wheel contains 6 (not 7 as with VM) 'left' pictures and the
right wheel 6 'right' pictures. So, corresponding left and right
pictures are about 6 cm apart.

The stereo-effect is a little 'cardboard-like' and the horizontal
alignment leaves much to be desired even after attempts to
'fine-tune'.

Although the idea looks clever (at least to me) the realization
looks very unsound (again at least to me). However, this
may be the start of a new generation of 'VM-like' viewers.

The big drawback is, of course, that you can't change 'reels'
(cog-wheels) unless you open up the viewer, remove the old ones,
mount the new ones and realign again, every time. Although for
advertising purposes, just like McDonald's did for Disneyworld
(or vice versa ?) this may work.

For anybody that might be interested, I'll see if I can find
more of these. Just let me know. I'll only broadcast to Sell-3D
not the 'other' one (e'Baize' or e'Maryland tobacco') 8<))

Comments please ?

Cheers,

Peter
