P3D "Trinty & Beyond" DVD Review

Just recently, the great award winning film "Trinity and Beyond:
The Atomic Bomb Movie" was released on the DVD format.
The film's horrific atomic blasts are presented with detail never
before seen, and the soundtrack has been remixed for the Dolby
5.1 surround sound format, with great use of the LFE track. I
call this "my scariest horror film on DVD". Very well done.
But what I thought would be of primary interest to this group is
the supplemental 3-D bonus section on the disc, which presents
for the first time high quality component anaglyph 3-D video.
Unlike VHS, laserdisc, and broadcast television, DVD stores
video in a component form, resulting in almost "studio grade"
color quality. The result is anaglyph 3-D which has very little
"ghosting", even when objects are few behind or are in front
of the stereo window (ie: not converged). For an experiment,
I dubbed a 3-D graphic set far behind the stereo window from
the picture gallery of the DVD onto VHS. While the DVD
exhibited some slight ghosting, the VHS dupe seemed almost
unwatchable in comparison.
Some of the 3-D extras include historical blast footage filmed
by the U.S military in the 1950's, the rest being present day
interviews, blast sites etc, ...all shot extremely well with an eye
for 3-D, probably due to the expertise of Dan Symmes of
Dimension Three, who was the 3-D consultant for the 10 minute
3-D bonus section. True to D3's tradition, the red lens is used
for the right eye. So again, for those who own (or plan to own)
DVD players, this disc is one to consider!
