The museum allows tripods and amazingly, flash.... says Bruce
I like ambient light. It has few suprises. Most SLR camera
meters require full aperture metering in low light. Ignore the
writing on the film box - expose for as long as you want.
Trade exposure time for aperture, stop down, get a good depth of field.
F16 for twenty seconds or so using cable release was fine for
The Behring Auto Museum with ISO 100 for low grain.
If you look at my 3D Expo images (follow link below) you will see some
results of my night work. I will also point out that the first
gallery was all Kodak CD scanned and the jellyfish was shot using
Ektachrome 400. The second gallery has a jelly shot using 1600 Kodak
negative film and was all scanned by me. The jelly required the fast
shot
of 1/25 and ambient light. Flash would pale by comparison even if
allowed.
Full night shots are are best wide open. I dare you to try to
overexpose
using moonlight. The human eye is very sensitive where film is not.
Street scenes are often good at 5.6 for best sharpness, no near objects
with a forty second or so exposure time. Use cable release.
Oh, and carry a black card to hold in front of the camera when you open
and close the shutter, or all of the lights streak.....
And bracket, but do it over two stop intervals or even four stops at
night.
When will you get to Milwaukee again? I wished that I had take more
beer tours
before I left Milwaukee. And maybe some photos of the chocolate
factory.
I have some good cheese making shots and alot of the downtown mall. I
have many great
slides of small engine festivals, beer tents, and lakes. I even have
some early
David White lab photos and late fortys early fifties stuff from around
there.
