At the Kansai Stereo Photographer's Club meeting on
5/23, more examples of stunning macro stereos were
shown by several members. Subjects included flowers,
butterflies, and other fauna, but hummingbirds in flight have
also been beautifully captured.
Members use the plastic lenses from disposable "macro"
cameras available in Japan, custom mounted in plates
which fit old Minolta or Yashica bodies with their mirrors
locked up and a septum added. The twin lens spacings and
distances from film plane have been worked out to give
various fields of view. With a pistol grip, cable release and
flash, the results are powerful, dedicated cameras for
capturing close-ups in stereo. As good or better than a
Macro Realist, at around a tenth of the cost, imho.
