P3D Macros with Realist Film ID unit?

I know some people have used the Realist Film Identifier to
take stereo macros. I am trying to understand how this works.
I assume that you place your object into the area for the ID
card, put the unit in one lens, take a picture. Then, without
advancing, switch the unit to the other lens, shift the object
and take the other picture. Is this correct?

I assume the stereo effect comes from shifing the object.
I see no other way of doing this. Any thoughts?
