We won't forget! :-) BTW, I don't remember if anyone mentioned the
term, "True color" when refering to 16 bit and higher video cards.

Me too! That's because I've fooled around with that technique. Of
course I didn't know any better. If I did I probably wouldn't have
tried it!
I've tried this when I noticed some of my anaglyphs looked darker
when viewing with the red filter compared to the blue filter. I
initially tried increasing the brightness on the red channel before
trying converting the left image to gray scale. For some images
it works great but for others there is no noticable improvement
and sometimes worse. I guess it all depends on how much of the
red component (or more importantly lack of) there is in the image.
Thus by converting the left image to gray scale you don't loose as
much of the left image if it doesn't have much red in it to begin
with.
The truth about True Color is that there is no pot of gold at
the end of the rainbow! ;-)
