I shoot with a FedBoy and have been happy with it.  It is actually a 7P
format and has an automatic mode.  It is not fixed speed it has auto
exposure.  The aperture settings shoot at a fixed speed (1/30 second)
however and are only meant to be used with a flash.

Also, there is an "A" setting on

In that mode it will not fire unless it has enough light, which may be
your problem (or the battery is dead or the camera is broken).  Try
setting the film speed dial as high (fast) as it will go.  Point it to a
bright light.  If it fires the camera may be OK or may need a newer
battery.  If it doesn't fire try cleaning the battery contacts or
changing the battery.  The exposure system is pretty simple, but on my
camera it seems to work better than when I try to use a meter on my
Colorist.
