P3D Hummingbirds and sports

Thanks to Franklin J. Flocks and Paul Talbot for their posts re my Q re
hummingbird-type shots.
I should have explained further what I meant by "-type" shots.
It was a thought of how to take 3D shots of fast-moving sports such as
football or baseball (or cricket if you're in the UK or Australia) that the
hummingbird discussion triggered. The action would be some way away,
requiring the use of a twin-rig using telephoto lenses.
I was imagining a 2-person team with cameras set up the appropriate
distance apart to compensate for the use of telephoto lenses. The cameras
would be mounted on tripods to maintain constant height, and the 2 people
in the team would be simultaneously following the action through their
viewfinders. But only one person would be in control of the shots, so that
when he/she took the shot on his/her camera it would automatically trigger
a simultaneous shot on the second camera.
What would people recommend for such a rig?
