P3D Re: Nimslo / XA2 Underexposure

Mark,

Delighted to hear from you--I understand you are here in the Pittsburgh
area--and my namesake too!

And delighted to hear the red theory--I'd much rather understand complex
stuff like this than dig into my camera or take it to a repairman along
with some big bucks! As I thought about all this I did recall that the
Olympus SLR's use silicon blue cells (aren't fooled by this red problem)
for the actual exposure reading, _off the film itself_. I've been
_really_ spoiled by years with that, which has carried over into my
Olympus beamsplitter shots. I don't care what anyone says, and whatever
edge darkening and keystone distortion problems there are, I still love the
accurate exposure and easy dipping down into the range of 1/15 to 4
seconds, plus complete DOF control with the aperture-priority automation.

I do have a sliver of ND filter for Nimslo bracketing--maybe I need
a couple more! I've also been shooting on the 100 setting with K200-
fears of grossly overexposes shots are quite unfounded! I remember
using a finger over the cell for my Kodak Instamatic Reflex--I do
try to be more sophisticated now :-) but whatever works!

What are your thoughts on using the XA2 twin rig? Since I have one,
a twin rig is only an instruction book and sixty bucks away, plus
a bit for the bar! How do you find results with that wide stereobase?
Does it drive you nuts putting in two rolls of film, having to
operate the controls on both cameras, etc.?

One specific question--do your XA2's have a problem with darkening
toward the corners of the frame? Mine does in most outdoor situations--
I've been told it's because of the combined diaphraghm-shutter design--
nature of the beast--can't be fixed. Most of my flat XA2 shots I
mounted in square slide mounts, and in some cases it really wasn't
noticeable, so I used a standard mount.

Maybe we can get together and look at each other's work some time!

Mark
