I've seen Dr. T's new manual. A copy came in my mail today with a "Happy
Birthday" greeting from the author. (July 10. 42 years. Still silly.)
First photo in the book is the dashing Dok himself holding a Realist in
the official "ham sandwich" position - thumbs beneath, index and middle
fingers atop to work the controls.
The rest of the book? Some of us just make pictures, others make history.
George has produced another astounding volume - his most astounding I'll
say - in the growing library of Themelis tutorials. This book is a
precious compilation of 3D wisdom born of many on-list discussions, many
views shot, many screws turned, leaks plugged, lens covers broken. . .you
get the picture. Before you ask your basic questions here, before you
check the P3D archives, before you buy a Realist, before you get any other
book, get this one - and you'll have a prodigious head-start, not just in
use and maintenance of the Realist, but in the very basics of
stereography.
Scanning these pages I see answers to questions I've asked, questions I've
seen asked, questions I never thought to ask, questions I was going to ask
but don't have to ask now. Not just George's own insights, but the best
tips and history and boiled-down explanations from all the best sources,
with copious illustrations, meticulous credits and wide-ranging
references.
Can anyone name a better source of compact, comprehensive instruction for
the average Realist-toting stereo jock - I dare you to try! It's a banner
year for stereo!
Effusively,
Bruce (not commercially affiliated with you-know-who) Springsteen
