P3D Re: Kodachrome
George,
Unfortunately, I don't think so. What is supposed to be bad when the
film is fresh is a green cast to the shadows. This was vey bad when
the film first came out back in the '70's. Whether it has ever been
that bad in the '90's I don't know--from about 1982 to 1998 I shot
about 3 rolls of Kodachrome 64, none of which had the greenies.
I used a lot of Kodachrome 200 from about 1986 on. I've never seen the
magenta highlights vary very much either from year to year or in respect
to the aging of the film. The combination of the 81A filter and exposure
at about EI 80 have worked very well for me. The 81A is actually to give
a warmer color balance, but helps with the magenta highlight problem as well.
FWIW, I've often, but certainly not always, noticed magenta highlights when
watching movies in a theater.
