P3D Nimslo Filters

This evening I made 4 film-gel filters to apply over my Nimslo sensor.
The colored filters are simply frames of color shot with my Realist.
Using velcro I attach the piece of film over the sensor while allowing a
piece of the film to reside over the viewfinder window. This way I can
monitor the effect of the chosen filter, and preview how the color will
lighten or darken certain areas of the image. I made a red, blue,
orange, and green filter. Each is approx a density of 1/2-1 stop.
I did some rather quick brushing up of my old black and white theory,
reviewing how colored filters affect similar and opposite colors. So I
have to consider how the meter will read the scene, take into account
the auto-metering reaction to this filter.....and hope for the best!
For example, a blue filter will allow more blue color to transmit to the
sensor, the camera will believe the sky is lighter, and underexpose the
image as a result. By contrast the blue filter can be used to darken
reds....so a red rose will be properly exposed...........the sensor sees
a darker rose and adds exposure to compensate.
The result......a typical Nimslo underexposure is corrected by the blue
filter. The red filter would result in just the opposite etc.
I'm off shooting this weekend and I'll post the filter results next
week. MarkDottle
