P3D projection screens

I have followed with interest the recent thread concerning projection
screens. If I may I would like to share my recent experiences. To begin with,
by far the best option is a Lenticular screen. You may purchase one brand new
but that will run you a minimum of $125 plus S&H.The best advice I received
from some readers of P3D was to check out the local thrift stores. This I did
and on MY FIRST TRIP I found a DaLite Silver Pacer 50X50 for $11.95 at the
waterfront rescue mission in little Ft. Walton Beach Florida! Additionally as
an experiment I obtained a 4ft by 6ft piece of foam core artists board. Then
I carefully, methodically, painted the front surface with CHROME spray paint.
If I remember correctly it took 2 cans of paint and about 6 hours to complete
the task. I did the painting in my garage to eliminate air currents and
minimize the danger of foreign debris finding its way to the freshly painted
surface. When I was done I had a surface that closely resembled a sheet of
brushed aluminum. I could even see my reflection, albeit one that reminded me
of a bathroom mirror with a layer of steam fog. This surface seemed to work
just as well as the Lenticular screen, although stowing and setting up is
much easier with the DaLite Sliver Pacer. One additional warning, as I was
painting in a closed garage much of the sprayed paint droplets dried in
midair and settled to the garage floor as a sort of "silver dust." I managed
to track this stuff into my house and was afraid my wife was going to serve
me with divorce papers! That is until I cleaned it up. Hope this helps!
