I must take exception to this.  I worked for R*** Camera from 1979 through 
1991.  In the earlier years of my retail experience it was quite common, even 
for mass market labs like Kodak, to charge a lower rate for unmounted slides. 
 This practice has become rare in the mass market but is still quite common 
from pro/custom labs (like A&I).  I just had two rolls processed through a 
small, local lab (Washington, DC) and paid $6.04 per roll for sleeved, uncut, 
unmounted 36 exp E6.
