Dick Termes is a painter in South Dakota who works on the surface of
spheres. I saw his work in The Visual Mind: Art & Mathematics, ed. Michele
Emmer, MIT Press, 1993. Also _Leonardo_ 24, No. 3, 289-292 (1991).

Paper polyhedra versions of some of his work are available at

He has developed a 6 point perspective (the 6th point is behind the
observer).
There is no end to the complications of this type of project. One can
model a glass sphere, or a mirrored sphere. Termes says his images are
most like the image in a glass sphere, except not upside down; and that
there is very little distortion at the center of the image, at any
orientation of the sphere.
I would think that a 3d image on a globe would have to be drawn or painted.
But possibly photographic images could be projected from inside the
sphere. I'd guess that polarized materials couldn't be used, because of
the steep angle of view towards the edge of the sphere.
One good way to experiment with this would be to simulate the navigator's
teaching globe, a smooth sphere painted with blackboard paint, and use two
colors of chalk to match analglyph glasses.
