P3D Re: Slide Exposure
The discussion about bracketing and light vs. dark slides is useful.
I can see where in stereo projection a lighter slide would be good.
I've certainly done those sunset shots where I bracketed and it was
hard to pick. Quite often I will mount more than one of the same shot
and keep both of them around just to have a proper continuity between
dark and light as I show my slides--which one I use depends on the
slides before and after it.
Overall, I go for the dark side. I started this in flat projection where
I used an f/1.7 lens on a Carousel projector and a piece of white posterboard
on a corrugated backing, Velcroed to the side of the projector box,
as the screen. That way I could show slides in almost any situation,
day or night. Now I have a GE Biax fluorescent lamp (bright!) behind
my Pentax viewer, which, along with its companion beamsplitter, I got
from Gary Schacker. In fact, until I got the housing completed, I
got a lot of complaints that it hurt viewers' eyes between looking
at slides!
It's only sort of related, but I've thought about mounting some
slides for crosseyed viewing and then projecting them, without
polarizers, on the small screen, to view without glasses. This
would be workable with the beamsplitter format, where the images
are side-by-side in the mount. I'm used to mounting separate left
and right chips in a 2X2 mount because that's how I mount my Nimslo
shots, to view in the Pentax viewer. But I'm sure even a stereo nut
like me would have sore eyes after only a short time of viewing!
