May I suggest another model? Let's assume that the film area is
larger than required to capture the desired image pair. Then
we set up a black frame of wire or other thin stiff material in the
scene somewhere. Any shape, any orientation. Make the exposure and
process.
All will probably agree that this 'frame' is an artifact in the image.
Then let's mask each image just to the inner edge of this frame. This
edge does not lose it's shape, or the orientation of it's edges. It
should be considered to frame the image, and be a three-dimensional
artifact in the image. Avoiding calling it a "window" prevents
confusion.
Making such a frame a rectilinear shape, oriented in a plane parallel
to the film plane, with vertical and horizontal edges, and with most of
the subject lying at a greater distance from the camera than the frame
would certainly appear very similar to a window, and calling it such
a useful moniker.
