Nathan,
3.5 x 7 is the standard size stereocard. There is also a taller version
called a cabinet but it is not used very much these days. If you think
about it, your pictures can't be any taller than 3.5 inches or they
would
go off the card and they can't be any wider than 3.5 inches either
(3.5 + 3.5 = 7). However, they should be a little narrower even yet.
Physical
considerations are that there should be a narrow blank strip between the
pictures (the septum) and wider blank strips on the outside edges so the
wire card holders don't obscure any of the picture. The rule of thumb is
that the pictures should be as wide as the center to center distance of
your stereo viewer. These are just quick, generalized pointers. Like
anything
else there is a lot more to it than that.
