You are absolutely correct.
However, I said it would help "compensate" not correct. I find the
color change (not correction) of fluorescent light from tungsten film
preferable to the color obtained from daylight film. This is, of
course, a purely personal preference and one that each individual
must chose for themselves.
Just as the choice of daylight or tungsten film for shooting christmas
lights. Most people (?) prefer the balance from tungsten film,
whereas I prefer the "off-color" from daylight film. This is especially
true when there is snow in the image. I like the "warmth" from the
yellow color shift.
This is a case where I like the "inferior" daylight film to the
"superior" tungsten film. Sorry, I just had to add that *{;-)
