I think the Nathan would probably not mind me observing that he is not a
technically minded person.
What his friend probablr said was something like "keep the aperture setting
as big as possible" i.e "use the high numbers".
It would not have been possible to use the small numbers (shoot "wide open")
in any case, or the exposures would be way off.
However, although it is best to use a small aperture (high number) for
increased depth of field this should not be done too much. Most people cannot
hand hold a camera absolutely still at under a hundredth of a second. So the
sharpness gets compromised anyway...
