Actually it's not difficult at all. I repaired a COLORIST 1 and 2 myself.

In a nuttshell:

Remove the wind and rewind knobs.
Remove the top plate
Remove the bottom plate
Release the "thingie" that keeps the spindle locked in place.
Pull out the spindle.
Put the plastic spool around the spindle. 
Drill a very small hole all the way through spool and mark spindle
Drill hole through spindle
Put spool back and drill all the way through both
Reassemble everything
Stick a fine nail in the hole
Secure it with a drop of glue
Et voila
