P3D quoting



Everyone should bear in mind that it's not considered good internet
form to quote a message in it's entirity (expecially if it's long),
and then just add a few original lines of text.

Generally, when someone is following up on a previous posting, it
should be assumed that everyone has read it. Thus it's good to
edit any quoted material way down to just a couple of lines to
specify the point you are responding to, or to clarify, or (if the
original posting was quite a while ago) what the general gist of
the original e-mail might have been.

Some e-mail lists will scan new versus old text, and prohibit
posting if a certain ratio is not present (say 75% new minimum
to 25% old quoted). I've not found it necessary to do
that here, but we need to be careful about this (when you are
sending messages to over a thousand subscribers, 50 lines of
redundant redundant text text adds up in a hurry!).
