P3D Mounting Marathon has started...

Last night I started mounting the first rolls from my recent trip.
I started from the rolls from Paris and have mounted about a dozen
so far...

This is an interesting experiment... For 10 years I have been using
Realists... I have tried all kinds of Realist lenses (except for
Custom) and my 2.8 Realist is modified for 7 sprockets to get wider
images. I have also used a Belplasca and a few other stereo cameras.
PLUS, SLR cameras, mainly Minolta X-700 cameras with different lenses.
In addition to the above, I participate in slide exchange folios and
actively in two clubs (I attend all meetings). So, I get to see
a minimum of 20 stereo pictures (more like 50) a month from different
makers and different stereo cameras.

As some of you might remember, last November I decided to take a big
jump and got an RBT S1 stereo camera. This is made by joining two
Conica Hexar cameras, which are like glorified point and shoot cameras,
i.e. rangefinder cameras with auto exposure and focusing, plus
provisions for manual operation. I posted my very favorable
impressions in this list quite a few times.

Just before I left from Greece I got an RBT X4 camera. This is the
fully manual RBT camera, made by joining two Cosina SLR cameras.
The lens mounts are compatible with Pentax lenses but the camera
comes with two linked Cosina 35-70mm zoom lenses.

Prices for the RBT cameras are in the order of thousands of dollars
while my Realist cameras (even modified for 7p) are under $ 1K and
if you are using a simple 3.5 Realist, the price is around $100.

In the postings to follow and as my mounting continues I will
compare the performance of the RBT cameras among themselves and in
relation to the stereo cameras from the '50s.

More to come...
