LAST MEETING SEPT 4th
I should have known better than to schedule the third KC Metro Camera
Club (Stereo Division), meeting on Labor Day weekend!! After the last
flurry of emails to everyone i could think of, came the replys, "sorry,
but no can show!! :-( the dreaded "no show, fear"!! help!!
Bob Garvey, guest facilitator, arrived a half hour early which gave us
plenty of time to visit and set up his talk on "hyper stereo"! (Bob's
interest in stereo stems from using a holmes viewer as a child to
strengthen a lazy eye.) As meeting time approached i remember wondering
if anyone would be joining us when FOUR showed up!! Kansas City WalMart
Lab King, Dave Williams, and his wife drove to Lawrence Kansas (50 miles
out of the way, one way!!) to pick up and show the newly relocated Bruce
Springsteen family to the meeting!! Wow!! If no one else came, we had at
least enough interested folks to have a good time!! Yea!!
Bob took over and had prepared an excellent outline and visual aids to
demonstrate the "hyper" subject! Most interesting were color photocopy
pairs from photographs taken of Singapore harbor and mountains from
a level moving cable car (scenes included orienal gardens, shiploading
cranes and skysrapers in front of distant cloud banks)! Bob had taken
several images on the transit and was able to successfully pair many
adjacent images but most of all the succession showed how much
foreground you can add and still comfortably view in extream hyperstero
conditions! Bob is a stereo print fan and brought and showed many
excellent examples of "hyper" and normal stereo photography! (He was in
"hog heaven" when two members broke out their APECC folios during "Show
and Tell"!!)
Bob was pretty well along on his talk when a knock on the door brought
Darren Gunderson and wife blowing in from Junction City, KS (2 hr drive)
to join us and bring the one and only known TDC projector in this part
of the country!!! Yea!! And then, not ten minutes later Ernie Rairdin
and HIS wife showed up!! You know! The SSA Supply Guy!! I couldn't
belive it! Ernie was traveling from Minn. to Texas by way of KC and
timed his arrival to attend our meeting!! How nice, and if i hadn't
put up the notice on Photo 3d list he would have missed it! Thanks
again! Bob Wier!
Boy! Now we were really in full stride! After Bob's great talk and some
refreshments we settled into a wonderful "Show and Tell"! Masters of
the APECC circuit!! Ernie and Bruce both! And they showed the likes of
David Lee and others! So many outstanding images had my head swimming in
3-D Land!! We ended with everyone contributing to the Realist slide show
and then I showed five 2"x2" pairs from my project to produce a
ViewMaster reel of the Henry Moore Sculpture Garden at the Kansas City
Nelsen/Atkins Museum of Art!! (with Rich Dubnow's help, it can't miss!)
What a wonderful meeting!! It all turned out just perfect with just the
right size crowd! More eggs hatched than i had counted!! Thanks to all
for a great meeting!!
