P3D GVSG meeting Vol. 2 No. 1
- From: bd3d@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
- Subject: P3D GVSG meeting Vol. 2 No. 1
- Date: Fri, 10 Sep 1999 00:07:16 -0600
The Genesee Valley Stereo Guild began its 1999-2000 season Wednesday,
September 8. This begins our second year as a stereo club in the
Rochester, NY area.
Here's some random observations on the meeting, others may expound and
elaborate:
I counted 17 heads when I called the meeting to order (sort of) at 7:30. I
saw more heads arrive during projection. Attendees included Marty Abramson
from Niagara Falls (90 miles away) and Bud Wawro from Syracuse (90 miles
the other way) and others from points in between. I drove 3 miles.
Had a bunch of handy folks attending, bringing a variety of cool stereo
projects:
Bob Darrow and Don Josephson brought a few more of their viewers inspired
by the 3D-IQ shown by John McCart at our March meeting. This viewer
utilizes a back-to-back card format in a trading card size. Bob and Don
have built hardwood viewers for their 4x6 prints in this back-to-back
format. Real cool! It's all done with mirrors, as the saying goes.
Ken Johnson brought a custom viewer and some of his ultrawide format slides
(16 perf., maybe?).
Emil Cost brought some innovative twin camera setups.
I brought Frankenpony, my siamesed full-frame Kodak, loaded with a roll of
Elite Chrome 100 Extra Color I had found in the bin that used to hold
Kodachrome at the local Wal-Mart. Fired off a few shots of the group.
After I welcomed everyone and discussed a bit of club business, Grand and
Trusted High Finance Officer Dave Boyer discussed our financial situation
(good), then Marty brought everyone up to date on NSA 2001 Buffalo.
The topic of the meeting was What I Did on My Summer Vacation, including
Open Projector for those who brought slides.
I had left an important clamp at home, so despite picking up new batteries
and freeing up a jammed motor, we couldn't use the remote focus unit and
the projectionist had to focus the TDC himself (by hand no less, how
uncivilized). First official use of new club projector stand, purchased
over the summer. Big improvement over shaky, shaky predecessor.
We started with Vann Alden's slides of sunflowers sunflowers and more
sunflowers plus scenes from the Niagara Falls (Ontario) Botanical gardens,
including more sunflowers there. :--)
Richard Black brought slides from his summer travels, including Washington
DC and Toronto.
Bud Wawro had some excellent slides from a train roundup out west and a
plane roundup back east. These projected well once we removed the plastic
sleeves protecting them. The sleeves depolarized the light.
Marty brought a PSA Stereo Circuit with him, so we were able to view a
variety of slides from around the world. Marty also brought a selection of
his slides from a summer trip to Fort Niagara and various scenes in and
around Niagara Falls, including a recent visit by Mary Ann and Wolfgang Sell.
Ken Johnson brought slides showing the construction of the World Trade
center in NYC in 1970ish.
Eventually broke up and locked up by 10:15, an early record for us. Marty
had left at 9:30 to get (hopefully) three hours of sleep before work.
Next meeting is October 13. See the website
