as there was an extended discussion of this some time ago
(I forget when). But yes, it's a known phenomena. I get the
effect quite strongly when looking at the display on my VCR
which is red, cyan and yellow. When it's dark the numbers appear to be
on different planes quite vividly, even though I *know* they
are at the same level.
