For those who have more money than time :-) consider the SAM
(Stereoactive Alignment Magnifier), marketed in the USA by 
3-D Concepts.  This device (reviewed here in detail a few months 
back) consists of:

1. A light table
2. A pair of excellent quality achromatic lenses hinged in the
   table so they can get in and out of view
3. A mount holder to hold your RBT (or other mounts) with the extra
   refinement of a mounting gauge sliding underneath.

The alibity to view the stereo image upon mounting surely comes
handy when the free-floating mounting technique is used.  Also,
a good feature of this system is that you can change the table
top and adapt it to different mounting jigs or just a plain light
table.
