P3D Re: A plan to "rescue" Mr. Shields

The idea of all this generosity is rather overwhelming. I really
appreciate the thought.

As for a Realist, no thanks. A FED would be nice, but if I also got
the 10 rolls of film I would feel an obligation to take the time to shoot
them, mount them, etc.

Relationships are far more important to me than awards and recognition.
My time and money are directed toward this. My most recent roll was
far more satisfying in this regard than anything else in this world.
Having intensely used 22 different cameras in my lifetime, by quick count
on my fingers, from Brownie double 8 movie to the OM-10, Nimslo, etc.,
I feel confident that I had the best camera setup in my hands when I
took these pictures, which yielded the desired result. Nothing else
would have worked so well.

During my consideration of 7-perf and 8-perf this summer, I realized
that I had available to me (and indeed they are both in my camera
case) _two_ Olympus OM-10's, with two 50mm f/1.8 lenses. I could
twin them. I am sure the pictures would be gorgeous to look at.
I have chosen for the time being not to do this. There is no doubt
in my mind that the representation of reality and reality itself
are two different things.

I would also say that, regarding education, the perspective of my
school is different from others. If you think that relationships have
something to do with it, you are right. Since this is a stereo
photography mailing list, I'll say no more, but I'll be happy
to answer e-mail. To be fair, I have to say that my ISP has just
informed me that they are throwing in the towel and 12-31-99 is
the end. Meanwhile, they aren't going to spend any money fixing the
