Now, that's an interesting problem. I'd say unless your video input
to the control box is very marginal to begin with (probably not the
case since up to 4 pairs are ok) then an amp on that side will do
you no good.

What you really need is an amp on the output of the control box which
probably would require a response in the low freq range, say from
15 Hz up to about 50Khz (I'm assuming a switching bias on the
goggles of perhaps 44Khz max). Although fairly easy to build using
a few 2N2222 transistors, getting something off the shelf might be
a problem. An audo amp might be ok, except you are dealing with
square waves, and many would not give you the voltage you'd need
(nor the low end response). 

Right offhand, the only thing I can think of along these lines 
are "Instrumentation Amplifiers" which are used to amplify things
like seismic wave pickups, brain wave patterns and so forth. They used
to be fairly common in the days of using paper based oscillographs, 
but those aren't exactly common anymore (mostly I've seen them at
governmental / educational auctions as they are discarded / surplused
out...)
