Medium Format does not have to be expensive. A couple of years ago I
decided to try stereo photography. I bought a pair of Lubitels
(Russian plastic bodied 6x6 TLRs with glass lenses), a flash bracket
and a pair of cable releases for less than the cost of a Realist.

Unfortunately the Lubitel is no longer produced, but you can get good
deals on some of the lesser known TLRs. I've heard good things about
the Ricoh TLRs from Greg Erker (see
<URL:http://www.angelfire.com/ca/erker/> for some really impressive
camera hacking he did to create a Stereo Ricohmatic 225). If you live
outside of NYC (where the used camera market is seriously overpriced)
I've heard that you can get some of the Ricohs for about the same
price as the Lubitels.
