By an ancient method called "trial and error"...

Mark Willke, the art editor of Stereo World has extensive experience
on that... It involves shooting a lot of film and making a lot of
adjustments.  Only for the very patient stereo photographers.  These
are the ones rewarded at the end (Mark was rewarded with a
fascinating series of hypers).  Unfortunately, I am much too impatient
for that kind of stuff...
