Amen brother Bruce Springsteen!! If you don't have to work for it,
should it hold value? For whom? In the old days a photograph was admired
with accolades like " he nailed that shot!! What genius!" Nowadays the
admiration is likely to be directed toward the hardware.." What camera
took that shot!?" The metering system was right on!" So many expressive
creations are now interpolated by machines....how sad! The musician who
uses midi, racks of effects to sound like 3 instruments, develop chords
from a single note....how sad! Using computers to convert a mundane idea
into a Monet...how sad! I had to redefine my appreciation for acceptable
art, and that is, to admire works created innately ( and in real time in
most cases) from talented people using their equipment as an
extrapolation of their minds/bodies creation, and whereas the same
equipment would produce little reward in the hands of other less
talented individuals. I'm referring to a paint brush and canvas, a
manual camera, a guitar, delay pedal, and marshall amp ( in that order) A
football,basketball,frisbee....a tablet, pencil, and theme etc. Show me
NOW what you can do! I'll stand next to Dr.T as he composes with a
Realist, put a guitar in your hands, write a short story in one hour,
paint something...I'll watch. Score a TD with 30 sec. left in the game.
Do a triple axle on the ice as you spin that petite girl over your head,
And to prove you are talented.....do it again! Everything else is bull!
Throw an egg at a window, pul the window out of the frame and hang it in
a museum and you've got expressionalist art!! You've got to be kidding!!
Learn a computer program and you're an artist? I don't think so.....
