P3D Re: Non-Stereo VM reel- On Purpose!

As I now understand it, The View Master reels that were created with 14
flat views, could only be properly viewed in a modified projector. A
regular VM projector (or viewer) advances the reels 7 times during a 360
degree revolution. The modified projector had to advance it 14 times during
a 360 degree revolution. This was, apparently, a failed attempt at opening
a new market for flattie VMs. Most of these reels produced were,
reportedly, Disney subjects. The geographic ones were, possibly, a National
Geographic tie-in.
The "flashlight" style projectors that someone mentioned, were for
projecting one of each stereo pair on the regular 3D reels. The result, of
course, is flat. I had one of those. My kid broke it about the second time
he used it. Maybe I'll by one of the new projectors. The styling's kinda
nifty. Of course, to see all 14 pictures on the Mary poppins reel, I'll
have to try to do "half turn" advances.
Thanks for all of the help and feedback..
