The hot shoe mount level from Hamerix (sp?) that I use are in a clear
plastic block visible from all side. There are actually two tubes mounted
at 90 degrees to each other. There are two mounting points that allow you
to position the level so that both levels are giving you the reading that
you want (this works for verticals on a "flat" cameras as well).
The level tubes are straight through and through and there are two sets of
parallel lines that you line the bubble up with. All of this is a little
1" by 3/4" square package. The only problem I have with it is that it cost
$35 - but it is very quick and easy to use and can be placed in any
position required to get a "level" reading for your camera.
