Alternative art, alternative music, alternative lifestyles ( oops) are
conscious self-proclaimed actions to break the rules of main stream
acceptability....whether by design or experiment. On the other hand
classic art, classic music, and traditional works withstand time, and
their contributions are valued from generation to generation. 
When the drug high wears off, and the booze is gone, and your friends
are tired of finding you passed out and wearing your sister's clothes.
Those stereo pairs of your dog's crank are no longer "cool" anymore and
your fans are ready to rediscover the beauty of " the rose in the vase"
style or artwork IMO. That's why " alternative" has the stigma it does.
Time and sensibility remind us that there is nothing of value to
re-visit regarding many alternative works. Just my opinion.      Mark
